We value equity, diversity and inclusion because the goal of the lab is to improve health for all individuals. We value persons of all identities, including dimensions such as age, culture, national origin, ability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, language, race, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and others. Although science should be objective, we acknowledge that there are overt and covert biases. As human geneticists, we understand that diversity provides important new perspectives in solving scientific questions, and we embrace contributions from all. We promote the academic and professional development of students and staff from different backgrounds. We endeavor to actively engage in positive behaviors in order to achieve these goals.
